THE PROBLEM!
To ease traffic congestion, particularly during the vacation/hurricane season, an
alternative NCDOT is considering is to widen US 158 (to 7 lanes) from Barco south to Kitty Hawk and NC 12 north (to
4- 5 lanes) from Southern Shores through Duck. We believe this proposal would destroy the unique character of
the Outer Banks for residents and
visitors alike. More importantly, we believe there is a safer, less costly,
alternative.
THE ALTERNATIVE!
A safer and more cost-effective choice
for easing traffic congestion is to build the two lane, 4.7 mile, Mid-Currituck Sound Bridge. This bridge would span
the sound from the mainland to the northern beaches in Currituck County.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1. Join the BB-PR and
volunteer to
help with its activities.
2. Make
a generous contribution to allow the BB-PR to fund independent (and
expensive) studies to encourage government entities to build the bridge
and not widen NC 12 or US 158.
